Wallpaper Borders Add Interest as Well as Beauty
Wallpaper borders are one of the most flexible decorating "tools" available. They can be used alone or in conjunction with wallpaper patterns. By incorporating the right wallpaper border into your décor, you can quickly and easily give any room a professional, "finished" touch.
Wallpaper (all by itself) is the only decorating medium that can quickly and completely transform your room. By adding any number of patterns - or combination of patterns - you are able to instantly move from "country" to "sophisticated" or from "masculine" to "feminine."
Wallpaper borders enhance the appearance of wall coverings and - with a little creativity - help to instill interest as well as beauty.
Get Creative With Your Wallborders
Most often, wallborders will be used in conjunction with a wall covering at the top of your wall or as a "chair rail" in the middle of your wall. However, there are other wonderfully creative ways to use a wallpaper border.
- Outline the doors and windows of your room with a wallpaper border for a unique twist.
- "Frame" your mirror with wallborders for added flair.
- Apply a wallpaper border around the edge of your ceiling to create a "tray" ceiling effect.
- Use multiple wallpaper borders to create a layered effect.
- "Frame" an entire wall then add a large mirror or select pieces of furniture to create a true work of art.
- Go vertical! Nobody ever said wallpaper borders had to be hung horizontally. Create texture as well as interest by hanging borders vertically to develop a "striped" effect.
Using Wallborders With Paint
Wallborders also work wonderfully with a variety of paint applications.
- Hang wallpaper on the lower half of your wall (beneath a chair rail) then paint the top half with a coordinating color. Next, install a wallpaper border near the ceiling.
- "Texture" your wall by sponging or ragging your paint. Then hang a wallpaper border near the ceiling.
- Create a matted and framed look by using one coordinating paint color (painted two inches higher and two inches lower than the height of your border) behind a wallpaper border. Finish the wall in a second coordinating color.
